Hello everyone (:
So~ since it's summer, I decided that maybe we should talk about some face masks ~^-^~ just for fun, and it can actually help with acne. During the school year, I had this strange phase when I was always looking for face masks because... I get lazy during school, and stay buried under homework for hours and occasionally stress too much, and voila~ the perfect combination for cultivating acne!
Just to let you in on a little secret, chocolate and other sugary and fatty foods don't directly give you acne (it could, but there is not enough evidence to support this common myth), since pimples are caused by bacteria and dead skill cells. Though eating a healthier diet can lead to a healthier lifestyle! If you want to read more about this, check out this article:
Be sure to wash your face with a facial cleanser at least twice a day, but no more than three times a day, to keep most of the acne away (; Washing your face cleans your pores and washes away dead skin cells that could cause acne!
It doesn't really matter which one you use, since it's practically all the same and they all have the same purpose, to cleanse you face! I guess some could cleanse better than others, but I haven't felt a difference~
Strawberry Face Mask:
Though strawberries are delicious, this tasty "pseudo" fruit could be a natural and rich antioxidant face mask, it's inexpensive and has great facial benefits!
This is super simple, and there are many different ingredients that you could mix strawberries with, for example, honey, lemon, yogurt; but strawberries alone are fine also!
The following recipe can be used once or twice, because I feel that if you use too many strawberries and forget it in the fridge (like I do--darn memory), it could start to smell strange and mold can actually build up.
Ingredients:
- 2~4 ripe strawberries (organic would be better!)
- Fork
- ~OPTIONAL~ 1/2 teaspoon natural non-flavored yogurt
- ~OPTIONAL~ 1 tablespoons of raw honey
- Wash strawberries with lukewarm water and pull the stalks off. Dry them with a clean cloth.
- ~OPTIONAL~ Washing your face with warm water opens up your pores and allows for your face to suck up all the juicy antioxidants!
- Slice the strawberries into pieces. This is actually optional, but I think this would be A LOT easier when you have to squish them later.
- Squish the strawberries with a fork. Keep squishing the strawberries until all the strawberries are quite liquidy and into a "mush" of strawberries!
- ~OPTIONAL~ Add in the extra ingredients. Mix well.
- Apply mashed strawberries. Apple the mush onto your face, be careful around the sensitive eye areas. This is edible, so there's no worry if you get some on your lips.
- Leave the mask on for about 20 minutes.
- Remove with warm water and clean cloth. Make sure you get everything off!
- ~OPTIONAL~ Wash you face with cold water to close your pores.
If you have sensitive skin, I advise you to apply a little on your arm before you apply it on your face, since this mask may not be for everyone, we are all unique and difference tolerance levels.
Egg Facial Mask:
This was actually a recipe my mother had used when she was little, and it's quite popular among my family and plenty of others (I think), since it's been passed on from generation to generation.
Egg whites reduce the amount of oil on your skin, while the egg yolk moisturizes your skin!
This has a smell that I'm not quite fond of, and I feel the smell is actually pretty bad, so if you dislike odorous things, such as the smell of raw eggs, then this probably isn't the facial mask for you, because you have to withstand this smell for 15~30 minutes.
Ingredients:
- 2 small bowls
- One egg
- Get 2 small bowls and separate one egg into two bowls. Separate the egg white into one bowl and the egg yolk into another.
- ~OPTIONAL~ Washing your face before any face masks opens up your pores!
- Apply the egg white onto your face. You could beat the egg white until it becomes foamy so that it wouldn't be so runny.
- Wait for about 15~30 minutes. The egg white tightens your skin.
- Wash off the egg white with lukewarm water.
- Apply the egg yolk. You could just apply the egg white if you don't want to apply the yolk.
- Leave on for about 15~30 minutes. Again, the egg yolk also tightens your skin
- Wash it off with warm water and again with cold water to close your pores!
Eggs could carry bacteria, so be careful not to consume raw eggs or get it into your eyes or nose.
Yogurt Mask:
Yogurt does wonders for your face! A yogurt mask is very effective in ridding the skin of acne! This is so simple, and it makes your face feeling smooth like a baby's bottom (;
All we need is:
- Natural non-flavored yogurt.
Simply apply the yogurt onto your face and leave it on for about 10 ~ 20 minutes and wash it off with warm water and dry your face! It's that simple, and you can feel the results!

Rice Flour Facial Mask:
This is another simple, yet effective face mask... with rice flour! Rice flour is widely known as an ingredient to treat blemishes and wrinkles. It is said that rice powder can protect our skin from dangerous and harmful UV rays. Rice flour also has exfoliating properties that leave the skin clean, refreshed, and brightened~
Have a bowl ready, and put about a tablespoon of rice flour into the bowl. Add a tablespoon of honey and mix it with the rice flour. You may also add in green tea, for it also has great facial benefits, but add only a little or it would ruin the entire facial paste. Apply to your face and leave it on for about 15~20 minutes!
There are plenty of facial masks out there, and although it may be tempting to try everything out in a few days, remember to let your skin rest~ Don't overkill facial masks, use them for only once a week, or the wonderful healing and beneficial effects could actually have a reverse action!
